Back in the USA

September 23, 2018
Pumpkin Patch RV Resort
Bangor, Maine

FANTASTIC!!  The fenced in dog run has been completed and I can't get enough time in the yard.  I've played with my Frisbee. I've played with Duke.  I've played with Tick.  And I want MORE.  Come on Dad.  You can wash the truck later.  It's playtime.  They were constructing the pet area when we stopped here on our way north.  I am happy to report they have done a marvelous job!!
  I LOVE this campground💕

Dad and Momma took off for a bit this morning.  They went to an Agricultural Fair in nearby Unity, Maine and watched a sheep herding demonstration.  Those border collies had their moves down pat and those sheep and goats were herded right where the rancher wanted them.

The fair really focused on organic farming.  Of course there were more animals than the sheep. It was a good sized fair with areas on textiles and wool, energy and shelter, organic gardening and of course a food aisle.  Lots of handmade items for sale made by woodworkers, jewelry designers, weavers, honey growers, etc.  And boy was it well attended!!  Dad couldn't believe how many cars filled the adjacent fields.  He told Momma it was a good thing they arrived in the morning or they would have had to walk a good mile to get to the entrance!!

Momma and Dad also got to visit a neat museum in Moncton, New Brunswick before we departed Canada.  It was a history museum.  There was a map of Moncton painted on the floor.  There were carts on wheels that you could push around on the floor.  If you stopped on a big red dot, the screen on the cart played a video with the history of that particular intersection.
It may have been a video of the old railroad or the old fire station.  Too cool. Of course there were lots of artifacts on display as well. Momma loved the old Victrola. It was so colorful.

I have to admit, our border crossing sure was quick!  What is your citizenship?  Where are you coming from?  Do you know your license plate number?    Have a nice day!  They totally ignored ME!!  Of course I'm such a good traveler.  I just sack out in my crate in the back seat and you don't hear a peep out of me...until it is PLAYTIME of course.

Okay Dad, I'm ready to go back to the dog yard. I think Dad likes to go so he can socialize and chat.
Later folks...It's time to romp and play....

It all began with a postcard

September 18, 2017
Pine Hills Campground
Harrington, PE

Back in the 1980's a Dad received a post card from his daughter and today, Dad has passed on but his Bottle Houses and beautiful gardens live on as a popular tourist attraction.
Inspired by the post card he received,  Edouard Arsenault began collecting bottles from local dance halls, restaurants and the dump...no recycling at that time.  He spent the winter cleaning and removing labels and when the weather broke, he used 12,000 bottles and built his first building: The Six-Gabled House.

It was just a hobby he enjoyed in his 60's but the response and enthusiasm from neighbors and friends encouraged growth.  He added The Chapel and The Tavern.

It was a misting, cloudy day.  I imagine the bottles would give off a symphony of colors and light on a sunny day making the houses even more impressive.

The gardens have a wide variety of plants and flowers as well as a goldfish pond.

There were even some bottle trees made with recycled components.

It was an awesome attraction that concluded ...as most attractions do....with a gift shop.

The Bottle Houses are located in Cap-Egmont.  The route taken wound through the agricultural fields of PE.  Lots of potato fields, corn fields and dairy farms.

And there was even a hint of leaf color change.
We are getting a cold front sliding in over the next couple of days.  I wonder if I shouldn't have a warm coat to put on in addition to my beautiful fur coat?  I run so fast the cold won't have time to get me!!  I'm not concerned.

PEI

September 16, 2018
Seal Cove Campground, PEI

Momma said she was impressed by the young hostess in period dress at Roma Three Rivers. The gal was perky, friendly and full of information.....and a volunteer.
Roma Three Rivers is an historical site from 1732 when merchant, Jean Pierre Roma opened an International Trading Post.  Now it is an historical site that offers guided tours....in July and August. So everyone was a month too late for the guided tour but....self tours were available.

They also offer meals that begin with brown bread baked in their brick wood oven served with molasses.  It was so good, Dad brought home the leftovers from the basket. Dad said the Arcadian Meat Pie was tasty while Momma enjoyed the Fish Cake.

On the way to Roma, they passed through Montague.  Someone in that area is a skillful artist.  Check out the life size cravings by the waterfront.  Great detail!!

Wood Island not only is the site of the Ferry that travels several times daily from PEI to Nova Scotia,
it is also the site of the Lighthouse Museum.
The lighthouse was manned by a lighthouse keeper until 1990.  The docent was another young gal, a high school student who had commented when we saw the wedding photos taken on property that she has hopes of having her prom pictures taken at the site.  One wedding  photographer had captured the wedding scene from the view out the lighthouse window.  Neat pic.

Each room in the lighthouse had a theme. One room was about sea life and lobster.  Another room shared travel in the winter over the frozen water.  Women and children paid $4 for a ticket for the 3 1/2 hour trip sitting in an open boat while men paid $2 and were expected to put a strap over their shoulder and help drag the boat over the ice.  My how times have changed!!  I'm sure glad Momma and Dad have a 5er and a Ram.  It's so comfy!!

Farewell Nova Scotia...hello Prince Edward Island

September 15, 2015
Seal Cove Campground
Prince Edward Island

We departed Nova Scotia but stopped at Mass Town Market
before departing to collect some fresh veggies....and none for me of course!!  We spent a night at Cape Tormentine Campground, NB and fed the mosquitoes.  They weren't too bad and bug spray kept them at bay.  That was our second mosquito challenge of the trip.  Not a bad record😀

This morning we zipped down the road just a hop, skip and a jump and traveled the longest bridge in the world
that crosses ice covered water (not icy today of course)....the Confederation Bridge that connects PEI (Prince Edward Island) with New Brunswick.  There is a ferry from Nova Scotia to PEI that my parents road on with just their truck when they were here several years ago.  The bridge which opened in 1997 is impressive....huge...awesome!!  8 miles long!!

In 1993 when discussion of a possible bridge referred to as "the fixed link" took place, there were many contrasting opinions of what a bridge linking the island to the mainland would do to the current life style.  A winning vote of 59% allowed the bridge to be built.  Now wouldn't you think they would want year round access to the mainland?  The ferries don't travel in the icy water.  Only 59% were in favor of change!

One of the first things noticed were the stop lights.  Yes, they have the red, yellow, green lights that you expect to see but they are also shaped.  Red is a square.
Yellow is a diamond, Green is a circle.

We traveled across the island ...it really isn't all that large an island....to Seal Cove Campground and settled into our waterfront site.  Ah...what views.

We are backed in with our large back window looking out over the water. Smile for the camera Dad.  Momma's at it again.

And as luck would have it, Momma and Dad arrived on a pot luck day.
It was the end of the season celebration as the campground closes down on September 19th.
Now knowing that PEI is famous for its potato crop, they expected lots of potato dishes.  WRONG.  But all the dishes we tasty and varied.  A nice assortment to choose from....while I was left home with...yep, my same old dry dog food.

But I was able to secure some of my favorite dog treats when Dad had coffee break later in the evening.  Life is good!!
