Alabama

Momma said today was travel day.  So why are they getting out the induction plate, frying pan and bacon?  Isn't the standard operating procedure for travel day to have a quick, low prep breakfast?  French toast with bacon this morning?  Oh, it's a laid back departure today with only 138 miles to travel.  Now I get it.  And I know that French Toast is one of Momma's favorites.  Who knows, it could turn out to be a favorite of mine as well if I ever get the chance to sample some.

As it turned out, the weather cooperated to give us a perfect travel day.  We departed at 11:00 and arrived around 1pm -- 2 hours for 138 miles??  Whoa!  How did that happen?  We were held up near Bainbridge High School at a light FOREVER.  The two lanes heading in our direction had been reduced to one lane due to a paving project, but when all the emergency vehicles began to race a head of us, we began to realize that it wasn't the roadwork that was stalling the traffic.  When we finally advanced, we passed about 4 cars with stuffed rear ends that had been pushed to the shoulder of the road with a bunch of high schoolers standing nearby.  Ooops!  Looks like the repair shop will be getting lots of business.

We even located a nice vacant lot further up the road for a midway break.  It was time for a coffee break for Dad and dog mini treats for me.

So how did we make such great time today you ask?  We had some help from the clocks when we crossed into Central Time.  'Hey, did you not see that state border that we crossed?  What, no picture of the entering Alabama sign?  It was kind of a oh-hum, plain ol' green sign that didn't stand out at all so I forgive you for missing the shot.'

This area sure has some unusual road names:  Good Hope Drive,  Springview Trail,  Green Frog Lane,  Butter and Egg Road,  Pot Licking Lane.  Do you suppose a great cook lives on that road or is there just a lot of road kill to toss in the pot?

Arriving in the early afternoon

gave us plenty of time to enjoy Aunt Pam's oldest daughter's visit along with the two granddaughters.  Now they are definitely my kind of visitors.  When one member got tired of tossing my toy, the next one would take over.  Yes, our main purpose in camping here is being close to where the family lives, making a visit a reality.

Momma, I can't seem to locate any pictures of them.  I'm thinking it might be time of give me my own camera/phone.  I could have taken some shots to include today.  Okay, so in reality I was as tied up with toy chasing as you were in talking that I probably wouldn't have taken any pics either.  Oh well, tomorrow is another day with more opportunities to try to remember to ask everyone to say 'cheese'.

I'm Chloe
