Ian's influence

 October 1, 2022

Ashland RV Park site 24

Marietta, Ohio

Ian's effects have reached us.  The rain began last night and has continued all today.  Yep, we are still in the 50's with the cloud cover keeping the temperature within 2 degrees of when we woke up at 51.

All that play area, and you don't want to take me out to play in the rain.  Pooh!!

The rain didn't stop Momma and Dad from taking that Trolley Tour this morning.  I thought they might be a tad looney, but then there were 14 other tourists who decided to tour in the rain as well.

Harley Noland, the tour guide, has a deep knowledge of the history of Marietta that he shared as the trolley driver navigated the streets of Marietta past the buildings that have a history of being flooded to the second story when the Ohio River banks overflow...numerous times.

One home owner had had enough flooding and cleanup.  He had his huge Victorian style house picked up, slid back, raised the property by several feet and then had the house replaced on the raise site.  It boggles the mind to think of how that was accomplished.  From the looks of the long stairway to climb to the front door, that was quite a project to complete.

Many of the gorgeous Victorian style homes were built with money earned from oil but one establishment was built by the individual who became wealthy from his business....refrigerator magnets.  I guess you can make money being creative.

The conditions weren't really condusive for picture taking but the tour was extremely informative.

The fireplace has been adding warmth to the rig all day with a touch of heat from the heat pump to keep everyone toasty inside.  It's a movie and popcorn kind of afternoon followed up by a bowl of warm soup.  'Hey Mom, can I get a bowl of that soup too?'

I'm Chloe
