Finger in the Dyke~good timing

January 10, 2020
Summerfield, Fl

It seems the little Dutch Boy is not the only one who can stop a leak.  Dad, my hero, has nice fat fingers that were more than large enough to stop the small pinhole leak in the water storage tank sitting in the corner of our workshop that was spraying a small stream of water.  And of course the leak was discovered between 9 and 10 pm when all the stores have shut their doors for the evening.  Now the good thing is, the leak was discovered in the late evening and didn't continue to spew water all night long.  Can't you just picture a flooded shop floor swimming with water rather than the small puddle that Dad discovered?  And the temperatures have climbed a bit higher than the chilling, heavy jacket weather we have had the last few days.  Messing with water in freezing temps can be painful.  We had good timing for sure!!

And additionally, talk about good timing, Momma had just shed her clothes and was ready to step into the shower.  Luckily she turned on the sink facet to bring the hot water to the bathroom pipes.  The water flowed for 45 seconds and then the flow quit ~ stopped~totally dry.  Couldn't you just picture Momma in the early stages of her shower all lathered with soap when the water flow was cut off?  And of course that's what you do when you discover a leak....you turn the shut off valve to stop all water flow.  Yep, timing couldn't have been better for Momma.  And yes, she did get her shower using the RV shower and water from the fresh water tank.  Ahhhh, life is good.

Now I have to admit, poor Dad had his finger over the hole for quite some time until the water in the tank drained off thru the hose Dad had attached to the tank to lower the water level below the hole and eventually empty the tank.

Great neighbors are a real blessing in times of need...for sharing water and such.  With a hose running from Tim to us, we were able to function as if we didn't have a leaky water tank.  Thank you Ritter's!!!  I even got my dog dish refilled😁

Here we are, Friday morning, after a quick trip to Lowe's for a shiny, new, leak free, blue tank and another project for Dad.  It wasn't a planned project but it moved up the list to top priority.

Here's hoping the change over is quick and simple....but seeing as our old tank has some age and there are always new improvements made over time, the connections may need a bit of tweaking.  But you all know Dad.  He's up for the challenge!!  I'm sure hoping it's quick as this project could really cut into my ball toss and retrieve time.
